INTERVENTION & REFERRAL SERVICES (I&RS)
IN THE GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
I&RS provides intervention procedures within the regular education school program for any child who demonstrated difficulty in school.
I&RS is a building-based problem solving committee of professionals who help teachers collaboratively solve problems and get assistance for students. The committee determines possible intervention techniques. An Implementation Plan is then developed which includes the interventions to be used, the measure of effectiveness, and a timeline for monitoring progress and follow up meetings to discuss progress.
Interventions in general education must be implemented, and the results documented, for a meaningful period of time. If it is determined by the I&RS Team that these interventions have not adequately alleviated the educational difficulties, and it is believed that the student may have a disability, then a referral to the Child Study Team should be initiated.
