Section 504
-
SECTION 504When a student exhibit difficulties in school, the Intervention and Referral Services Team will meet with parents to investigate the issues. The Team will develop an Intervention Plan and monitor the student's progress. When interventions prove to be unsuccessful in helping the student succeed in school, the Team will further evaluate the student, which may result in developing a 504 Plan. To qualify for a 504 Plan, a student must be determined to: (1) have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities; or (2) have a record of such an impairment; or (3) be regarded as having such an impairment. An appropriate education for a student with a disability under the Section 504 regulations could consist of education in regular classrooms with additional supports and/or supplementary services. If the student qualifies for special education, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be developed in lieu of a 504 Plan.
