Dear Parents/Students Summer 2010 Welcome to the Sixth Grade, Your teachers expect you to come to school on the first day with the following supplies: -
1 - 1 subject notbook for math -
2"-2 1/2" - 3-ring binders with 8 dividers with tabs and pockets. (2 different colors). -
2 Composition notebooks for journals and Spanish -
1 - 1 subject spiral notebook with perforated pages for Health -
1 pocket folder for health -
1 large, soft plastic 3-hole pencil case to fit into binder (large enough to hold a novel) -
PE requires all students to have a change of clothes and sneakers -
A lock for student's assigned locker *NO TRAPPER KEEPERS – They don’t fit in lockers. **No book socks as they bend the book bindings Each student is required to have several pocket folders, loose-leaf paper, pens and pencils, colored pencils, markers, glue, rulers, scissors, pencil sharpners, and a flash drive. No trapper-keepers (they don’t fit in lockers.) Please replenish supplies frequently. A student planner (homework book) will be given to each child in September at no charge. It is required that each student use THIS planner. A goal of the sixth grade team is to instill responsibility in each student. In order to achieve this goal, the following expectations will be adhered to: All supplies, books and assignments must be brought to class. No students will return to their lockers during class. Backpacks must be kept in your locker; those with wheels will not fit and will not be allowed. All books need to be covered with paper covers. Work is expected to be turned in on its due date. Points will be deducted for late work. 2010-2011 Sussex Middle School procedure for late student work (homework and longer term projects) is as follows: 1 Day Late 2 Days Late 3 Days Late 4 Days Late Grade 6 10 Pts. Off 20 Pts. Off 30 Pts. Off 0 Grade 7 30 Pts. Off 0 0 0 Grade 8 30 Pts. Off 0 0 0 Parents are notified of their students’ progress via progress reports and report cards. Any additional parent concerns can be addressed by means of phone calls, 973-875-4138, or email. It is the students’ responsibility to see their teachers for work they have missed (for band lessons, absences, etc.) If a student is absent for 2 days or more, please call in and pick up assignments.
