7th/8th Grade School Supplies

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Happy Summer! Summer is here, but in a few short weeks, your child will be back at school ready for a new year. We thought it might be helpful to send home a generic list of supplies that your child will need for September. We would like you to have this list to shop at your leisure and also to take advantage of the sales that start as early as July. The first list is for supplies that your child will need to have in school, and the second list is for supplies that would be helpful to have at home for projects that will be assigned during the year.

School Supplies:

  • Three ring binder:

A suggestion was made by some of the teachers that instead of buying one large binder it may be better to have two smaller binders, one to be used for morning classes and one to be used for  afternoon classes.  Another suggestion is for your child to have three small binders: one for language arts, one for math, and one for the other subjects.  This is a decision that you and your child should make based on personal preference and his/her organizational skills.   Also, some teachers feel that the large Trapper Keeper doesn’t fit well in the small lockers. However, the choice of binder is up to you  and your child.

  • Subject dividers with pockets if possible (At least seven of these, possibly more)
  • Pencils and erasers
  • Pens (blue, black, red, and green)
  • Pencil case to fit in the three-ring binder
  • One spiral notebook for Health with perforated pull-out pages
  • Laminated pocket folders (one per class, including Health)
  • Five marble composition books (one for language Arts, Spanish, science, social studies, and math)
  • Highlighter
  • Math Supplies: 12 inch standard/metric ruler and a protractor
  • Two yellow legal pads for writing class
  • Calculator: For those who have inquired, we will be using the Texas Instruments calculator TI-30Xa model number.  Though it is not mandatory to purchase your own calculator, many students do to optimize their comfort level with their very own calculator throughout their educational experience in grades 6  through 12.
  • Loose leaf paper for binders.

At-Home Supplies: These are for  homework  assignments and projects that may be assigned  during the year. There is a good possibility that you already have many of these supplies.

  •  Dictionary including a Spanish/English Dictionary
  • Markers
  • Colored Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Glue and tape
  • Scissors
  • Construction Paper
  • Index Cards (5x8)

One final item that your child may find very helpful would be a flash drive/memory stick. 128MB or 256MB is sufficient enough, although larger sizes have come down in price. Look for a sale! This is a device that fits into a USB drive and is used to back up computer work, so it may be brought to school and printed. Many projects and reports are typed on computers at home, and sometimes a printer isn’t working or the ink cartridge is dry. If your child can back up the work onto a flash drive, then it can be printed at school very easily. Floppy disks are often unreliable, and not all computers have a CD writer.  In fact, the computers in the lab do not have floppy drives, nor do the laptops.

                                                                     Sincerely,

                                                                     7th & 8th Grade Teachers
